Reviving Fall

The only thing that could distract me from the excitement and delight of summer is my love for fall clothing. While the photos from the Fall/Winter 2011 runway shows are incredible, after about five months of glancing over them I've become used to their enchantment. It's nothing like new fall ad campaigns and fashion editorials to reprovoke that original inspiration. Since June is the time that pre-fall and fall collections begin arriving in stock, reprovoking that inspiration could only be exactly what the industry needs for sales.

Like Tom Ford said of his reasoning for having more intimate runway shows, "I do not understand everyone’s need to see everything online the day after a show," he says. "I don’t think it ultimately serves the customer, which is the whole point of my business — not to serve journalists or the fashion system." Though of course I would never object to the instant gratification of runway looks being released to the internet. I love it! So that is where magazines and advertising comes in to revive that feeling of "must have!" for those of who are lucky enough to buy read-to-wear.

Here are some fall/winter 2011 editorial and ad campaigns:

Miu Miu ads featuring actress Hailee Steinfeld shot by Bruce Weber (which new and exciting for Miu Miu, as usually Mert & Marcus shoot their ads)

Karen Elson in Haider Ackermann, shot by Daniele Duella and Iango Henzi, for Vogue Japan.

Florence Welch and Gucci designer Frida Gianinni shot by Max Vadukul for W Magazine.

Codie Young in Balenciaga skirt, and Ruby Aldridge in Louis Vuitton and Celine shoes, shot by Terry Tsiolis for V Magazine Spain.

Jil Sander ad featuring Daria Strokous shot by Willy Vanderperre.

Jamie Bochert in Burberry Prorsum shot by Tom Munro for Vogue Italia.

Lara Stone in Miu Miu and Gucci hat shot by Peter Lindbergh for American Vogue.

Prada ad featuring Ondria Hardin and Antonia Wesseloh shot by Stevel Meisel.

Lara Stone in Calvin Klein shot by Camilla Nickerson for Vogue Russia.
